ABOUT SFO:
WHO IS SEARCH FOR
ONE? Search for One, Inc. is a
non-profit 501 (C) (3) organization founded in 1992 by Craig and
Remy Scott of Gladstone, Oregon (a suburb of Portland), with the
purpose to provide needed health services to remote and isolated
people of the world. Through Craig's desire to serve humanity and
Remy's upbringing on an island in the Philippines came the decision,
at that time, to focus their attention on relieving the suffering of
remote island people. The current President of Search for
One, Inc. is Gary Morgan of Moses Lake, Washington.
WHO BENEFITS? We are currently serving in a
number of islands in the Republic of Kiribati, located in the
central/south pacific where the international date line crosses the
equator. SFO was
asked in 1994 to consider providing health and development
assistance for the forgotten people who live in the outer
islands. From this initial requests SFO has been
bringing the needed people and equipment together to meet this
important challenge.
WHAT DO WE
DO? Search for One offers free medical, dental,
educational and developmental help to the underprivileged people of
Kiribati through professionals who volunteer their time and
services. The March 16, 1995
Los Angeles Times cover story, "The Pacific Paradox",
graphically illustrates how the Pacific islands are going backward
in their development. We often regard these spread-out islands
as paradise. But the many thousands of people who live there
face a daily struggle with disease such as dysentery, hepatitis,
tuberculosis, and, the ugliest disease: hopelessness.
Furthermore, the outer island people live in villages that roads do
not reach. Today, often where the roads stop, so does the
care, supplies and compassion. Search for One is poised
to be the crucial link between your desire to reach out in
care and getting that care directly to those who live across the
sea.
WHAT HAS BEEN
ACCOMPLISHED? SFO has constructed three
houses and a cookhouse at our base camp on Abemama Island. We have a
40-foot trimaran power and sailing vessel and a 26-foot MacGregor power and sailing vessel used for inter-island
transportation, and a 6 place, twin-engine Piper Aztec
airplane in service to transport teams to the more distant outer
islands. From January
1997 to present, many medical and dental teams have provided more
than $1,000,000.00 worth of services to the people of Kiribati.
HOW DO WE DO IT? Through volunteers, your prayers and financial
support, combined with a dedicated staff, Search for One has
been able to provide these services to the forgotten people of
Kiribati. |
