NO MATTER WHAT YOUR TALENTS ARE, YOU ARE NEEDED.

We always have opportunities available for short-term as well as long-term volunteers. We ask that our short-term volunteers serve for a minimum of two weeks and that our long-term volunteers commit to a minimum of six months.



WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

  • Dentists and Dental Assistants to perform extractions, cleanings and fillings.

  • Medical Doctors to work at the clinic at Kauma and in the outer islands.

  • Registered nurses to work with the volunteer doctors at Kauma and the outer islands.

  • Educators (school teachers) to assist local teachers and set up interesting activities for the children.

  • Health Educators to travel with the medical teams teaching healthful living to the locals.

  • Activities Director to work with the health educator to provide educational and spiritual activities for the children.

  • Pilots who will fly a twin-engine airplane loaded with volunteers and supplies from island to island.

  • Gardening Teachers to spend a month in each location helping the locals to start and maintain a garden.

  • Builders are needed to teach the people how to build simply designed composting toilets and rain catchment systems from locally available materials.

  • Head Chef to prepare delicious healthful meals for the volunteers using limited food supplies.

  • Area Director to coordinate volunteer teams and make necessary contacts with the local people.

  • Boat Captains who will sail trimaran loaded with volunteers and supplies from island to island.

  • Sailing families and other nautical-minded people are needed to crew the boat and assist the medical teams.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS:

SFO asks its volunteers to be responsible for their round-trip airfare, as well as any lodging and food until they reach the island of Tarawa.  Once on the islands, SFO will provide the food, housing and local transportation via either a boat or a small airplane.



ACCOMMODATIONS:
We have built three houses and a cook house on Abemama Island.  We also have the equivalent of a large studio apartment able to accommodate approximately 10 people.
